California teacher accidentally fires gun in classroom while teaching class on safety.

Courtesy of KSBW:

A teacher who also serves as a reserve police officer accidentally fired a gun inside a Seaside High School classroom Tuesday, police said, and three students were injured.

Dennis Alexander was teaching a course about gun safety for his Administration of Justice class when his gun went off at 11 a.m.

Alexander was pointing his gun at the ceiling when it fired. Pieces of the ceiling fell to the ground.

A news release from the Seaside Police Department said no one suffered "serious injuries." One 17-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries when fragments from the bullet ricocheted off the ceiling and lodged into his neck, the student's father, Fermin Gonzales, told KSBW.

The teacher had just told the class that he wanted to make sure his gun wasn't loaded, when the gun fired, according to Gonzales.

"It's the craziest thing. It could have been very bad," Gonzales said.

The teacher was about to use the gun for a demonstration about how to disarm someone, according to Gonzales.

So to be clear a teacher, who is also a police officer, with extensive training in firearms, accidentally fires his weapon in a classroom full of children, injuring one.

And yet the solution to gun violence in schools is supposed to be MORE armed teachers?

Got it.

There are a number of things about this story that deeply trouble me, but right at the top is the fact that this individual was teaching children that they should attempt to "disarm" a gun man.

I studied martial arts for decades, and the idea of going after a gun wielding assailant was NEVER encouraged.

As one instructor put it, "You are not going to be a help to anybody while bleeding out on the floor."

This teacher was teaching dangerous ideas while also introducing an instrument of death into his classroom.

He should be fired immediately. From BOTH of his jobs.

Let me guess. His state is against Common Core teaching of basic math, shared history, and English skills, but all for some moron with a gun wasting their time on
Administration of Justice?" Justice would have been administered had this idiot been hit by bullet fragments instead of the kids.

    1. Nope. Sorry.

California had Common Core state standards before the Feds made it mandatory. We support common core.

I really don't understand how this guy got away with bringing a gun on campus. They're not allowed on K-12 public school campuses unless you are a uniformed police officer, either responding to a call or there on official business in some way.

Would not be surprised if he wasn't teaching any longer. If he's part time, very easy to get rid of him. Also very easy to get rid of the class, which is not part of Common Core and/or change the syllabus so that "gun safety" is NOT part of the curriculum.

The priest and rabbi's who felt that the should make a living on the 'spiritual hunger' of average people.Ironically, Jesus probably would never have been a 'christian' especially the variety that the Papacy represents.Jesus was never an advocate ot the 'Slave Morality', he was 'enlightened'T he 'Slave Morality, is the morality of the low. Low character, morality, ability, intelligence, creativity, etc etc When the 'low' envision themselves, they like vampires don't want to see their image and want and alternative to their 'lowness'. They have incorporated their defects and delusionally try to make them into avirtue. A lot easier than changing. The 'Slave Morality' is the 'morality of the servant, filled with resentment, envy and trying to seek advantage through 'victimhood'. This is one of the oldest 'belief system'. It's a 'death cult'. A 'mind virus'. It by nature and reality, is extremely immoral!"

  10. Um,no. My hometown of Seaside is a progressively blue and very racially diverse town, something we’re damn proud of. The education that my siblings and I received in the public schools was an excellent one,and gave us a great base for our college years. This idiot works as a reserve cop in the very tiny neighboring town of Sand City (population about 300). Just because we are the blue home county of the Panetta family,it doesn’t mean we don’t have our own small percentage of village idiots.

Dylann Roof’s Sister Arrested After Bringing Weapons to School Walkout

A sister of Dylann Roof, the man who massacred nine black churchgoers in South Carolina in 2015, was arrested on Wednesday for bringing a knife, pepper spray and marijuana to her high school, the authorities said.

...Sheriff Lott said that a school resource officer was informed by an administrator that Ms. Roof had the weapons and drugs. “Roof had also made a social media post on Snapchat which caused alarm to the student body,” Sheriff Lott said. No students were harmed, he said.

Ms. Roof’s Snapchat post criticized students who planned to walk out of class to protest gun violence. “I hope it’s a trap and y’all get shot,” it said. “We know it’s fixing to be nothing but black people walkin out anyway.”

Three students in a rural part of Arkansas will allegedly be smacked for participating in Wednesday’s national walkout protesting against gun violence.

Despite that drastic punishment, one student’s mother, Jerusalem J. Greer, applauded her son and the other students at Greenbrier Public School for their defiant protest following the deadly shooting that killed 15 students and two adults at Stoneman Douglas High School last month in Parkland, Florida.

“My kid and two other students walked out of their rural, very conservative, public school for 17 minutes today,” Greer wrote on Twitter. “They were given two punishment options. They chose corporal punishment. This generation is not playing around.”

      “One Small Voice”
      David Kapp

      One small voice.
      I have one.
      You have one
      Small voice.

      Raise it! Shout!

      One small voice
      Echoes around
      One small world.

      Two echoes.

      Two small voices
      Four echoes.
      Sixty-four small voices
      One hundred and twenty-eight echoes.

      Thousands of small voices
      One great roar
      Echoing around
      One small world.

      A small voice.
      I have one.
      You have one
      Raise it! Shout!"

OT "The beauty of this multidisciplinary research effort is that it enables researchers to understand what the environment of these ancient humans looked like. Geological, geochemical, and biological evidence indicates to a long period of climate instability around 360,000 years ago - a time when the area was also ravaged by earthquakes.

Ultimately, this could even provide insight into how humans came to be as a dominant species on Earth. The most prevalent theory is that early humans evolved gradually in response to an arid environment, but Potts and his team have a different idea. They believe that this environmental instability drove humans to develop new technologies and social structures, to secure their livelihoods during times of scarcity."

"The lawsuits argue that these companies, including GEO Group and CoreCivic, break a law against human trafficking by having detainees work for a $1 per day or less.

GEO Group filed the congressmen’s letter with U.S. District Court in the Central District of California on March 12 as part of the Novoa v. GEO Group suit. It argues that immigrants should not be able to sue prison companies because they aren’t employees there, and that paying them $1 per day for their work is lawful. The letter also said that forced labor saves the government money and improves detainees’ morale."
"The letter was signed by Lamar Smith, Jody Hice, Matt Gaetz, Steve King, Mike Rogers, Paul Gosar, Andy Biggs, Louie Gohmert, Dana Rohrabacher, Paul Cook, Scott Taylor, Earl “Buddy” Carter, John Ratcliffe, Duncan Hunter, Bob Gibbs, Barry Loudermilk, Brian Babin, and John Rutherford."

My father was an Army Ranger and also earned a black belt in tae kwon do while we lived in Korea. Disarming a person with a gun may be a last resort, but it can be done. My Dad trained guys how to do it when he taught close quarters combat at Ranger School at Ft. Benning. My Dad was a badass.

Israeli military also know how to do it, using krav maga. Marine Recon are also taught various techniques to disarm an armed attacker.

Gryphen, if you took martial arts for decades and this was never addressed, maybe you should ask for your money back.

    1. Well military training is going to be a little different than the training you get as a civilian, as there is an increased possibility that you will be confronted with by an armed assailant.

And I do know some rather impressive techniques I picked up along the way, and actually taught some of them when I trained police officers.

However just about every qualified martial arts teacher will tell you that you have little chance of actually getting close enough to get the gun, and teach you instead to comply with the gunman unless it becomes obvious that they are going to shoot you no matter what you do.

In the job I have now we have been instructed in deescalation techniques and I would suggest that in MOST situations that is a far better approach than to rely on martial arts skills.
