Red states preach family values, but blue states are better at putting that into practice.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey of 32 states, those with the highest percentage of high school students who say they have had sex are Mississippi, Delaware, West Virginia, Alabama and Arkansas. All but Delaware voted Republican in the last presidential election.

Meanwhile, the five states with the lowest proportion of high school students who have had sex were New York, California, Maryland, Nebraska and Connecticut. All but Nebraska voted Democratic.

When evangelical kids have sex, they’re less likely to use birth control — and that may be a reason (along with lower abortion rates) that red states have high teen birthrates.

Nine of the 10 states with the highest teen birthrates voted Republican in 2016. And nine of the 10 states with the lowest teen birthrates voted Democratic.

“Red regions of the country have higher teen pregnancy rates, more shotgun marriages and lower average ages at marriage and first birth,” Naomi Cahn and June Carbone wrote in their important 2010 book, “Red Families v. Blue Families.”

The liberal impulse may be to gloat: Those conservatives thunder about “family values” but don’t practice them. But there’s also perhaps a measure of hypocrisy in the blue states. As Cahn and Carbone put it: “Blue family values bristle at restrictions on sexuality, insistence on marriage or the stigmatization of single parents. Their secret, however, is that they encourage their children to simultaneously combine public tolerance with private discipline, and their children then overwhelmingly choose to raise their own children within two-parent families.

”Liberals, in other words, may be wary of strict moral codes, but they want to make damn sure that their own kids don’t have babies while in high school. It helps that they believe in comprehensive sex education and reliable birth control.

If this surprises anybody then you simply have not been paying attention.

These same conclusions have been reached by a variety of studies over the years.

Preaching at kids that sex is wrong and that they should never partake of the forbidden fruit, did not work in the Garden of Eden and it does not work in modern times.

And demonstrating the family values of love, respect for others, and personal responsibility, is far more effective than calling somebody a sinner for engaging in normal human interactions.

Progressive states are just better, that is why I am working to turn mine into one.

And how is there anything wrong with teaching public tolerance of all, and inside the family, expecting the best situation (birth control, marriage-when-ready, family plannin) of one's own children?

I remember when the Shrilla from Wasilla was running, how eager right-wingers were to excuse Bristol's (second? third?) unwed pregnancy away because "Things happen even in the best of families" while simultaneouly gloating over future pregnancies for the Obama girls, calling them sluts. In other words, excusing the ACTUAL out-of-wedlock pregnancy while fantasizing gloatingly over a pregnancy that didn't actually exist.

@4:47 AM At least Sunny knows who the father of ALL of her babies is. Even Sarah Palin has questionable fatherhood of Track, Willow, and Piper. Curt Menard Jr, Joe Schmidt, and Brad Hanson

Even the queen of teenage chastity herself, Bristol Palin Meyer, told Greta Van Susteren that abstinence is not realistic. Mommie Dearest crashes the interview to say that she misspoke, as Tripp sucks his pacifier. LOL

It's not gloating. It's stating fact.

What is, 5:57? Gloating over the possible future pregnancies of the Obama girls, one of whom is a high school graduate (are any of the Shrilla's kids actual graduates?) and neither of whom are the town bicycle?

When I was splitting with my X, who had been cheating on me, I was being tempted to have one of my own by a "happily married Christian man". An old school friend from Ga, a self-professed Born Again Christian, actively encouraged me to do so. I didn't. But it really struck me how the people who were supposed to be all about morality and honesty, were the very ones pushing me to be anything but.

WATCH: Velshi & Ruhle smack down manic Moore supporter claiming ‘godly men’ can’t fake being innocent

ppearing on MSNBC Monday morning, the president of a Christian advocacy organization launched a full-throated — and frantic — defense of embattled U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore, blaming accusations that hr stalked teen girls on “fake news” and the national media who have spoken with his victims.

Speaking with host Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle, Faith2Action’s Janet Porter claimed that it was unlikely that Moore was involved in any sexual assaults because she has known him for 20 years and that he is a “good man.”

“I know the man that is good, who has a character of impeccable values,” the Ohio-based Porter proclaimed. “He is godly and that’s just not something you can fake every single day for 40 years in a row. It just can’t be done.”

Co-host Ruhle immediately stepped in to correct the record.

“That’s not necessarily true,” Ruhle admonished Porter. “There are a lot of people in history who have claimed to be men of the cloth, faith leaders, and turned out to be scam artists. I’m not saying Roy Moore is, but we can’t say you can’t fake it for 20 years because people have.”

“Well, let’s look at the evidence. Not only do we have this man of impeccable character, 40 years without a rumor of anything possibly going wrong with his behavior, but –,” Porter parried only to be cut off by Ruhle.

“That’s not true, there are definitely rumors,” the MSNBC host explained to her. “This is a man who was removed from the bench twice, so you can’t say impeccable.”

Roy Moore And The Dangerous Rise Of Christian Nationalism

Don’t be shocked by the allegations against Moore. Subjugation of women and girls is actually his movement’s plan.

Many have believed the accusations against Roy Moore of sexual assault and harassment against teen girls to be massively hypocritical since for years he’s presented himself as a hardcore evangelical man of faith, and he has a loyal white Christian evangelical following.

But what if Moore’s alleged actions actually meld with a religious belief among some evangelicals, even if the adherents won’t outright admit it?

Moore in fact represents an extremist wing of an already theocratic-leaning base of the GOP that believes all women must be subservient and submit ― as Mike Huckabee, who hasn’t pulled his full-throated endorsement of Moore, infamously once said of women with regard to their husbands, expressing his own “Handmaid’s Tale” dream come true ― and that would no doubt include young women such as teen girls. After all, as one of Moore’s defenders in the Alabama GOP said in dismissing the allegations, “Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus.”

And since the advent of Donald Trump, this more extreme group of evengelicals has cleaved away from others and joined the alt-right and white nationalists, led by former Trump White House advisor Steve Bannon ― who is a front line warrior for Moore’s election campaign ― and which include white supremacists and racists like those we saw in Charlottesville.

Jack Jenkins, senior religion reporter at Think Progress, has been charting the growth in the Trump era of Christian nationalism ―the melding of some evangelicals and their beliefs with nationalistic movements and ideologies ― in several excellent and important articles. He, too, puts Roy Moore at the nexis of the white nationalist movement and the extremist evangelical movement.

...It’s becoming clear that, for many evangelicals and many in the alt-right and white nationalist movements, sexual assault against women and girls is not only not a deal-breaker for a candidate but is also perfectly acceptable, whether they want to admit this or not. The uniting of white nationalists and the religious right, and the rise of Christian nationalism, is premised not only on the false idea that people of color, LGBTQ people and other minorities are exerting too much control, but also very much so on the belief that women ― coming forward now and speaking out about sexual assault and demanding equality ― must be put in their place.

That’s perhaps one reason why Roy Moore and everything he represents is galvanizing both the religious and the secular far right. And that’s why the rise of Christian nationalism is very dangerous.

‘The View’ women hammer evangelical ‘zealots’ for hypocrisy on not seeing immorality of ‘child molestation’

The Christian Evangelical community has continued to support Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore despite allegations that he molested underage girls.

The women of “The View,” were disturbed that so many conservative religious leaders have flocked to defend Moore while also claiming they are moral leaders and have “pro-life” values.

“They said with Moore, even if he’s guilty they want a Republican in that seat,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said of Moore’s GOP supporters. “Does morality matter anymore?”

Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin said that she hates the whole thing and finds it “ridiculous” that so many would “put your party before the country, to put your party before the country? It bothers me so much! Morality is not a partisan issue.”

She went on to cite a survey from the Public Religion Research Institute which captured the downturn in the importance of morality among evangelicals. According to the survey, 61 percent say that “immoral personal doesn’t preclude public officials from carrying out their jobs.”

Moore Accuser’s Lawyer Tells Sean Hannity To Fuck Right On Out Of Here

The attorney for Gloria Deason, one of the women who says creepy Roy Moore creepily “dated” her when she was a teenager, sent Sean Hannity’s staff a devastating “No thanks” note in response to an interview request. It probably won’t make it into any business writing textbooks, but it certainly gets the job done.

  12. Liberal families also stress personal achievement and responsibility. As in, don't have children until you can support them and if you want to support a family, wait until after you graduate from college and have a good job.

Bet there are higher rates of education and employment of those same demographics in Blue states.

    1. I'm sure they're in the $200 rooms along with their handlers. The rooms aren't just for the birds. And since the Turkey association is footing the bill, I doubt they're going to waste their own funds on $3,500 a night.

They're going to stay with the birds Obama pardoned last year? Wonder if Trump is looking to get ahold of Obama's birds and have them slaughtered and roasted for Thanksgiving this year? It would be just like him to try such a stunt. He is such a cruel bastard.
