Gather round kids, Sarah Palin is going to tell us the meaning behind the 4th of July.

Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue moron's Facebook page:

Happy Fourth of July! This day epitomizes what is unique and beautiful about the greatest nation on earth, our own America. Countries are normally based on geography or ethnicity, but ours is based on ideas that bind us together and were declared in writing on this day in 1776. On that day we were united. It is time for that unity again, so that we may stand again. (Does she mean the unity that she is always trying to undo with partisan political attacks against liberals, and our Commander-in-Chief?)

To explain to the next generation what those essential, exceptional ideas are, ask a child to look closely at a handful of loose change and read what’s written on our coins: E Pluribus Unum. In God We Trust. Liberty. These are the notions our nation was built on, and they are still true and necessary today. Divided from these precepts our nation will fall. (Actually E Pluribus Unum was only officially added to our coins in 1873, almost a hundred years after the country was founded.)

This Fourth of July, we celebrate our Founders making their desire for liberty plain by declaring their independence from Britain’s King and his burdensome government. May that same unifying desire and courage to fight for God-given sweet freedom be our driving force today. (Yeah God didn't give us our freedoms, our ancestors fought for them. That's actually what today is all about.)

God bless you all and God bless our United States of America!

- Sarah Palin

You know the fireworks in Anchorage have been cancelled this year, and there are restrictions all over the state, but I bet there will still be a noisy display coming out of the Palin compound this evening fueled by alcohol, another unwed pregnancy, and long festering animosity.

All I know is that if I happen to be anywhere near Wasilla this evening, and I might be, I am going to keep an eye out for any flying wedding rings, or loud explosions of temper.

Personally I will be headed down to the parkstrip today to catch the 4th of July parade, and see if I can find that awesome corndog stand again.

There won't be any flying wedding rings. Ma Palin as taken to wearing the ring she purchased and allowed Bristol to use at numerous public appearances.

I know nothing about Dakota Meyers' grandparents, except for their very polite "We do not speak of Bristol Palin in this family."
They said so much in so few words. I'm glad Dakota has them to pick him up after his two months of living in the Palin whirlwind.

I am not privy to reports or rumors however logic dictates Sarah and Todd would not be pleased about the negative impact to their brand.

In light of the pregnancy disclosed Bristol was out of line flaunting her camping trip during the hijacked wedding barbecue. The selfies and petulant name calling indicate Bristol does not consider any one nor have any standards, values nor sense of guilt or shame.

It is a red flag when someone screws up (pun intended) this much shattering the little credibility that remained then acts out as if nothing happened. Bristol has a destructive arrogance intent on giving the finger to even her parents publicly.

I suspect they will continue to lie for her enabling and escalating her behavior.

As a Canadian, I think Americans are great. It's the 'people' that make a nation. But, I think Mexicans and Germans and Kenyans and Vietnamese are great too.

Those who aren't so great are the impatient drivers, entitled brats who post selfies, and the drunk drivers, racists, bigots, proud and narcissists who push and shove and the fake religious. Not so great.

Sarah Palin and her flag-waving friends can wave and post sentimental patriotic pride all they want, but the 'real' patriots are out today volunteering in parades and hospices, shelters, and doing a little good old-fashioned love of neighbor. Where is Sarah? Greta Van Susteren is in AK hosting vets with Samaritan's Purse Graham at his fishing camp. Guess doing good works is not in Sarah's personal constitution. She just does the easy job of haranging and ankle-biting while she's served at someone else's BBQ.

Those merrymakers in Wasilla and Anchorage better keep a lookout for a Hum-Vee limo. If it approaches their property, watch out and stay frosty. Don't let the party out, spray it with insect repellent, do anything legal, but don't let em' spoil your party.

We are finally in good hands even though the majority Republican Alaska Legislature has countered Governor Walker every step of the way. Hopefully, a lot of them (Republicans) will be voted out of office in 2016!

What a senseless thing to say. This country was based on geography as much as any other country, and ethnicity as well.

Did the FF send out messengers around the world to all the other British colonies inviting them to be a part of this new country? No, of course they did not. The 13 colonies were geographically contiguous.

Did the FF intend for those liberties they sought to extend to all those who resided in the 13 colonies? No, they did not. Ask any African-American. Or woman. Or Native American, non-landowner, etc., etc.

Be sure to go full screen and top resolution setting on the video.

They are spectacular! Mostly under 10 minutes each, one is very lengthy.

Sarah Palin is not patriotic even though she professes to be... just as she claims to be honest but.... She lectures her followers about things that she does not understand and has no real knowledge about that which she professes. She does not understand the basic history of the creation of the country nor does she have a clue about the "Articles of Confederation, the foundation document for the new United States adopted in 1777" and has probably never heard about the Constitutional Convention of 1787 which was held to address the problems of that document. She somehow thinks that the country became a country in 1776 and instantly wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in that same year with all the "founding fathers" agreeing to their terms. Perhaps she should read just a little bit about the founding of the US because history describes a far more complicated road to the siginging of the founding documents than any tea partier could fathom. (http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/conlaw/convention1787.html) I'm pretty sure that she thinks that there were only a handful of so-called founders when there were actually 56 delegates to the convention--not just her favorite..."um all of 'em...ah...George Washington..."

Is The Declaration of Independence A ‘Scientific Paper’?

...Some argue that the phrase “laws of nature” meant something different to Jefferson than it does to us (see here).

But I don’t think most people understand just how deeply steeped in science — and Sir Isaac Newton’s “Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica” — the founding fathers were, particularly Jefferson.

It’s worth noting now that for nearly two decades — including the entire time Jefferson was Vice President and President of this country — he was also President of The American Philosophical Society, the nation’s oldest scientific society, which was founded by the great American scientist Ben Franklin. “Natural Philosophy” was the phrase used for the natural sciences back then, which is why it’s in the title of Newton’s famed Principia.

In his book, “Inventing America: Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence,” the historian Gary Wills calls the Declaration a “scientific paper,” and explains that “the Declaration’s opening is Newtonian. It lays down the law.” The Principia, of course, famously lays out Newton’s 3 laws of motion, which many at the time called the “laws of nature.”

How familiar was Jefferson with the Principia? Very. Newton’s masterpiece was widely revered among the founding fathers. But Jefferson in particular had studied it closely, and he even wrote a letter identifying what he calculated to be a tiny mathematical error in it.

Jefferson was grounding the nation’s Declaration of Independence in the scientific laws of nature — a key point detailed at length in the book “Science and the Founding Fathers: Science in the Political Thought of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and James Madison,” by I. Bernard Cohen, the great historian of 18th century science. That is why, for instance, Jefferson wrote about truths that were “self-evident,” which is to say axiomatic.

    OUR SARAH FROM ALASKA aays

Happy Fourth of July! This day epitomizes what is unique and beautiful about the greatest nation on earth, our own America.
    - Sarah Palin

    OH OH!

What does Lynette Clark has to say about this?

Lynette Clark, the chairman of the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP), confirmed to ABC News that Mrs Palin and her husband Todd had both been both members and attended at least one party convention.

WHAT? SAY IT AINT SO SARAH

"When she joined the party our platform was right under her nose," Mrs Clark said. "I can't understand why in God's name she has aligned herself with a candidate who opposes the development of our republic and Alaska's resource wealth," she added.

    WAIT ONE FUC_IN' SECOND

    WHAT IS IT SARAH PALIN?

SARAH PALIN YOU ARE TALKING FROM BOTH SIDES OF YOUR MOUTH!

ONE SIDE OF YOUR MOUTH SAYS
    AMERICA IS THE GREATEST NATION

THE OTHER SIDE OF YOUR MOUTH YOU AND TODD WANTED THE 49th STATE OF THIS GREAT NATION TO SECEDE FROM THE UNION AND TAKE ALASKA'S RICHEST WITH YOU.

AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA,
GOV SARAH PALIN TAPED A GREETING FOR THE ALASKA INDEPENDENCE PARTY CONVENTION

SARAH PALIN JU GOT SUM SPLAININ TO DO!

Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, was once a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, its officials have said.

News of Mrs Palin's former membership comes as the latest in a string of potentially embarrassing disclosures about her past.

The party has lobbied since the 1970s for the right to hold a referendum on whether Alaska should secede from the United States. Its motto, "Alaska First", contrasts sharply with the John McCain campaign slogan: "Country First."

It seeks "the complete repatriation of the public lands, held by the federal government, to the state and people of Alaska" and aims to be "self-sufficient" by using profits from Alaskan oil and gas resources. It claims that the vote held in 1958 which led to Alaska becoming the 49th state of the US was corrupt and did not offer a proper choice.

While it is thought that Mrs Palin officially left the party to become a Republican in 1996, she recorded an address for its convention earlier this year in which she said: "I share your party's vision of upholding the constitution of our great state" and told members to "keep up the good work".

Lynette Clark, the chairman of the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP), confirmed to ABC News that Mrs Palin and her husband Todd had both been both members and attended at least one party convention.

"When she joined the party our platform was right under her nose," Mrs Clark said. "I can't understand why in God's name she has aligned herself with a candidate who opposes the development of our republic and Alaska's resource wealth," she added.

McCain would have never heard SP's name much less considered/chose her for a running mate had she not been elected Governor. I wouldn't have voted for him regardless of his choice, but the voters of Alaska who elected her Governor bear a large burden of the blame. They are the people who got the Palin ball rolling....lotsa fat horny guys with their d!cks all hard for the hot mayor all should be hanging their heads in shame. If it wasn't for things like the prayer warriors and her weird exorcism, I would think some McCain staffer had just given her a few evangelical buzzwords to run with.

“I’ve admired Sarah from the first time I met her at the 2006 (AIP) convention,” which Palin also addressed, says Clark. “She impressed me so much. She’s Alaskan to the bone; she’s a damn good gal.

“As I was listening to her, I thought she sounds like what we’ve been saying for years. I thought to myself, ‘My God, she sounds just like Joe Vogler.’”

"MY GOD, SHE (SARAH PALIN )SOUNDS JUST LIKE JOE VOGLER"

Vogler was the craggy, fire-breathing secessionist who founded the Alaskan independence movement in the early 1970s. Among the colorful Vogler quotes now in circulation are “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions.”

"I'M AN ALASKAN NOT AN AMERICAN "

Then there’s “The fires of hell are glaciers compared to my hate for the American government.”

"THE FIRES OF HELL ARE GLACIERS COMPARED TO MY HATE FOR THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT "

And “The problem with you John Birchers is that you are too damn liberal!”

    3. That is indeed a small part of a much longer passage that Jefferson wrote to his nephew. And even in the original it seems a bit misplaced. He's mainly espousing walking for long distances in the late afternoon after one's studies. He also recommends walking for 30 minutes upon waking. In walking he recommends clearing the mind and paying attention to the natural world surrounding you. The gun thing is puzzling to me a 20th century woman, but in context might make sense to a contemporary of Jefferson.

Origins: The passage quoted above is indeed an excerpt from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to his nephew, Peter Carr, on 19 August 1785, as collected in The Papers of Thomas Jefferson. It was part of a longer section in which Jefferson touted the benefits of physical exercise (such as walking or shooting) in ensuring both bodily health and mental health:

'Encourage all your virtuous dispositions, and exercise them whenever an opportunity arises, being assured that they will gain strength by exercise as a limb of the body does, and that exercise will make them habitual ... Give about two [hours] every day to exercise; for health must not be sacrificed to learning. A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. Never think of taking a book with you. The object of walking is to relax the mind. You should therefore not permit yourself even to think while you walk. But divert your attention by the objects surrounding you. Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far. The Europeans value themselves on having subdued the horse to the uses of man. But I doubt whether we have not lost more than we have gained by the use of this animal. No one has occasioned so much the degeneracy of the human body. An Indian goes on foot nearly as far in a day, for a long journey, as an enfeebled white does on his horse, and he will tire the best horses. There is no habit you will value so much as that of walking far without fatigue. I would advise you to take your exercise in the afternoon. Not because it is the best time for exercise for certainly it is not: but because it is the best time to spare from your studies; and habit will soon reconcile it to health, and render it nearly as useful as if you gave to that the more precious hours of the day. A little walk of half an hour in the morning when you first rise is advisable also. It shakes off sleep, and produces other good effects in the animal economy.'

Considering there could have been predators (or highway men) in the 18th century, a gun was probably a good idea on a walk.

Sarah Palin, The Shadaw Governor and the Secret Service

As the governor greeted supporters on the tarmac outside a charter jet hangar, agents formed the usual protective wall around the former vice-presidential candidate.

But that was not, apparently, the last the Palins saw of at least some of the agents.

On Thursday, according to the governor, her husband Todd, a four time champion of the Iron Dog snow machine race, took some of the agents out for a taste of his favorite subarctic sport.
    https://outfoxingkarlrove.wordpress.com/2008/11/09/todd-palin-takes-agents-for-a-ride-on-snow-machines-in-alaska/

Ms. Palin said at the end of a brief interview in her office on Friday. “Well, they escorted us up to Alaska, so Todd took them out on machines. That was a blast.”

It was not the only ride The Shadow Governor took Secret Agents on....

Interesting to read about the Palins befriending the agents. How odd to Sarah and Todd would be so friendly after agents failed to do their job and Bristol alone in the woods. That time she was so scared of the student that guessed the email password and went to prison for it. He federal court testimony helped put in there.

"Then again, maybe the Palins just befriended some of the agents. The governor often joked on the campaign trail that her husband, an oil production supervisor on Alaska’s North Slope, “looks like one of the Secret Service guys”"

So Todd was just like one of the guys according to Sarah Palin. hmmmm....

I love traveling to Europe. We have friends in France, Germany and Denmark and have enjoyed spending time with them and visiting lots of places in their countries. But, alas, we're also always glad to be home. Not that we're believers in "American exceptionalism," far from it, but home is home.

I don't remember much chatter about "American exceptionalism" when I was growing up during the post-WWII years. Conservatives must have latched onto the notion during the years of civil rights unrest and anti-Vietnam war protests, back when they started to look back with oddly rose-colored glasses at the "good old days." Well, it's time to get over it, conservatives. We all love our country but many of us want to see it continue to move forward and to be more inclusive and not less so.

Are their 2 different Sarah Palins?

One Sarah is so nice and close to the Secret Service, Todd is one of them in 2008. The other one has contempt for the man that was closest to them.

So what did happen between all these happy campers?

By 2012 Sarah had a change of tune, she was a victim of sexism in the workplace.

Agents Taken for a Ride on Snow Machines
      http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/08/agents-taken-for-a-ride-on-snowmachines/comment-page-1/?_r=0

That would be the same time as when the agents slacked off doing their job. They had a SS station built at the Palin property where Bristol was left alone without a phone.

Yet, Bristol swore under oath before a Federal Judge, that she was alone on that property.

You would think the parents would know if there were problems regarding their daughters security. What parent would not care about their daughters security. The First Lady, Michele Obama, sure does care about her daughters.
No one was fired and there was no word about the agents who failed Bristol. Bristol had to express her fear to her parents if she was that scared.

What do the Palins do? They cozy up to the SS agents and have a good time. While their daughter is living in fear. Why wasn't that David Chaney fired at that time?

Something sure is fishy with all this.

    'Anti-intellectualism is Killing America'.

"What Americans rarely acknowledge is that many of their social problems are rooted in the rejection of critical thinking or, conversely, the glorification of the emotional and irrational. What else could explain the hyper-patriotism (link is external) that has many accepting an outlandish notion that America is far superior to the rest of the world? Love of one’s country is fine, but many Americans seem to honestly believe that their country both invented and perfected the idea of freedom, that the quality of life here far surpasses everywhere else in the world."

This is SUCH a good article.

I hope that Gryphen has it on his list of stuff to post.

I've seen in posted in the comments quite a few times now, because it is SO relevant to what is happening in this country and the ringleader is Sarah Palin.

Well, she at least gave it all a huge shove once when she was briefly somebody on the national stage.

But others blithely jumped on the bandwagon for anti-intellectualism. It really is destroying this country, and faster than ever it's gaining momentum. Fox drives it, conservative, right wing, evangelical, teabaggers...they all drive their own version of it.

I would love to see this article being given a bigger focus on the blog. It really does 'connect the dots' on so many issues that are troubling our society, our cultures and our country.

Gee, i know that people like Sarah Palin want to rewrote the Constitution in their own image but, as far as I know, the country is still alive and well. There's even an American flag flying over the White House! Is Sarah trying to lead the charge in the first "squirmish" of the Koch Brothers Revolution? Sure sounds like it. Sarah Palin needs to learn some very basic American history and civics. Back to grade 5, Sarah; let's do it over and do it right this time.

In case you were wondering, Gryphen:

This Is What The Average Gun Owner Looks Like In America

...In a first step toward understanding who the typical American gun owner is, as well as the role guns play in their lives, she conducted a nationally representative online survey of 4,000 U.S. adults in 2013. The findings, published Monday in the journal Injury Prevention, reveal a wide range of gun ownership rates across the country as well as the profile of an average gun owner in America.

He’s white, married or divorced, high income, and over 55 years old. Unsurprisingly, he’s also more than twice as likely to be a member of “social gun culture” than those who don't own firearms. In all, almost one in three Americans owns at least one gun, but gun ownership rates vary widely across states. At 61.7 percent, Alaska has the highest rate of gun ownership, while Delaware has the lowest, at 5.2 percent.

What's ol' Saree gonna do? Trump is toxic and she was only just singing his praises a few weeks ago. Now with NASCAR out of the picture, is she gonna zip her lip or is she gonna do one of her backsliding numbers on Trump? The momentum is building. Now Panama has pulled out of the pageant.

If he's alienating countries now as a candidate, imagine what a mess he'd make if he ever, god forbid, got to the White House. Talk about Armageddon.

NASCAR and Camping World Say Buh-Bye to Trump

..The racing organization announced Friday at Daytona that the Xfinity Series/Camping World Truck Series postseason banquet, held at Trump National Doral Resort for the first time in 2014, wouldn’t return there in 2015. This year’s location had yet to be determined, although the convenience of being in the same city as NASCAR’s annual season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway put the Trump-owned resort in good stead.

“Everything weighs in,” NASCAR spokesman David Higdon told reporters in Daytona, where NASCAR annually races during the July 4 holiday. “We started talking about this early in the week. Given all the attention brought to this matter and how it impacts our partners, sponsors, our teams and our drivers and certainly ourselves, it ultimately was decision made today that we will not being going back there.”

Considering the significant power of sponsors in auto racing, a Friday letter from Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis undoubtedly pushed NASCAR’s accelerator in zooming away from the resort. Lemonis wrote he wouldn’t attend the ceremony if it’s held at a Trump property.

...One of the biggest NASCAR sponsors lobbied to have the event moved. Camping World Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis wrote in a letter dated for Tuesday that neither he nor anyone from Camping World would participate in an event at any Trump property "due to recent and ongoing blatantly bigoted and racist comments from Donald Trump in regards to immigrants of the United States."

"Our company will not stand to support any person or organization that associates with such beliefs, and we feel strongly about distancing ourselves from any negative and discriminatory comments made against any gender, ethnicity, age group or so forth," Lemonis wrote. "I would hope that the entire NASCAR organization would agree with my sentiments."
