Even in Texas murdering a local cat and sharing the picture on social media will get you fired. And being a veterinarian is no excuse. (Warning: Graphic picture.)

Courtesy of HuffPo:

A Texas veterinarian was fired after a Facebook photo showing her with her "first bow kill" -- a local cat -- went viral. Dr. Kristen Lindsey bragged online that she killed a "feral" cat in her neighborhood in Brenham.

She posted a photo on Wednesday, which shows her holding up the dead cat by an arrow protruding from its head, according to KBTX.

And if that was not bad enough, and really it should be, it turned out that the "feral cat" was in actuality a beloved house pet.

Lindsey apparently didn't know that the "feral tomcat" she bagged was actually Tiger, a 6-year-old orange Tabby who went missing earlier on Wednesday. A Facebook page titled "Justice For Tiger" was quickly set up and called for Lindsey to be charged with a crime.

It has not yet been decided if Dr. Cat Murderer will be charged with a crime, but it is unlikely she will be practicing veterinary medicine in the area, or perhaps anywhere at all.

Now pardon me for my ignorance, I'm not from Texas, but how is it possible that this woman vet did not recognize that killing cats for sport would make people unlikely to trust her with the lives of their pets?

I mean that would be like having a doctor in the area that sat on the hood of his pickup truck with a high powered rifle picking off inmates as they attempted to escape from the local prison on his days off.

Social media brings out the stupid in people. I keep hearing news story after news story about criminals/terrorists being caught because they posted either their plans or deeds on Facebook.

That said, I hope Tiger's owners sue the pants off her. Being Texas, I doubt she'll face any sort of criminal penalty.

Freaking unbelievable! I just KNEW that the so-called feral tomcat would turn out to be somebody's baby. I hate it that I was right.

    2. Yes, I would like to see her bankrupted in civil court over the pain, suffering and outrage of her insensitivity and stupidity.

Plus her license to practice should be revoked immediately.

No. After all that time and money she will never practice veterinary medicine again.

So much for those student loans.

Maybe she can get a job with the NRA? Oh, wait. That was a BOW kill.

So sorry. Maybe the local Walmart has an opening for a part time cashier.

      Justice for Tiger?

      THIS would be justice: http://www.wga.hu/art/p/paur/martyrdo.jpg

It could even be a fundraiser for an animal shelter. $10/arrow would have people lining up. They would probably have to use a paper target (pity), but there are a lot of cat owners who are outraged over this.

Veterinary education is only a little less expensive than for people doctors, in terms of years and money. She has callously thrown that all away. Her license should be pulled. Even if it isn't, thanks to the Internet, she will never practice again without opprobrium following her.

She can probably get a job as a helper at one of those dude ranches with staged hunts of tame/drugged critters. Anyone who would deliberately murder a pet, and brag about it (Vet of the year? Really???), would have no qualms about drugging quail.

I think she is one drugs. See how happy she is? Holding the poor cat up? My first KILL? Who says that about a CAT? (or any animal?) And she is "supposed" to be a Veterinarian? This is like out of a Stephen King novel.
And when did she shoot Tiger? He had been missing? This is the kind of "mental"ality that is "killing" America and making it "merika" the dumbass nation of fools.
The only worse thing could be if she used a gun.
But this is horrible and horrific that this woman took a 'Oath" to care for animals!?
That's why I think she is on drugs.
Big drugs. When they start investigating, drugs will be missing from the clinic.
What a horrible woman. I hope the people sue the crap out of the clinic also, they screened her and put her in a position of trust to care for peoples animals. Its like Gryphen says, a Dr. who mows down people in his spare time....OMFG!

This woman could have been abusing animals for years. It's only the social media angle that exposed her.

I have friends the live in the country and occasionally have had feral cats become a problem. They go the animal shelter, get an "approved" cage and bring the captured cats to the animal shelter. It's not rocket science.

I was a Vet Tech for 11 yrs. This is BEYOND Horrible! One of the Vets I worked for used to spay/neuter the feral cats for free. Why didn't this ditz think of that? B/c all the huntin' shootin' rootin tootin female idiots like SARAH PALIN and Joni Ernst get all the media coverage. She is so far "out there" she didn't even know this was "someones" Pet, or even try to find out whose pet it was? She didn't even TRY or she would of seen the cute little "Tiger" on YOUTUBE for craps sake!!!! Check for a microchip maybe? Catch the cat and keep in a kennel at her clinic and run lost and found ads? Maybe????

1:46, it sounds like the sheriff in Texas was disgusted by this. His comments seemed genuine, not political-evasion speak (Steubenville comes to mind for the latter). The sheriff's office has investigated and turned the case over to the DA, who decides whether to file charges. She might get a slap on the wrist, but let's hope there are consequences.

      Updated tonight:
      "Story Updates:
      Saturday
      9:11 p.m.
Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes said his office has reached out to Dr. Kristen Lindsey.

"She didn't want to talk to us at this time," he said. "She said she was going to come in with her attorney. Hopefully early next week, we get something cracking. Hopefully this girl comes in. She may. She may not."

Brandes said he could not arrest and Lindsey unless an investigation determines the picture of the dead cat is genuine.

"I've had people calling me from all over the country expressing their concern," Brandes said. "I just want everybody to know several things. We can't arrest and charge someone like that based on a picture on the internet. We have to make sure that is true and correct. Anybody can take a computer and alter a photograph."

"All these people are jumping up and down, they want action," Brandes said. "The wheels of justice turn slow. You want to be sure once you accuse and arrest someone."
      ***
OMFG, she is going to get away with it!!
Unless they find the cat and she could of disposed of it with all the other strays, he got cremated and is gone....she can say her fb was hacked and the pic was photoshopped.

But the photos are identical. That is Tiger. The markings are spot perfect a match.

She'll pass on the pet part but they'll get her for animal cruelty if the pursue it.

I hope the owner sues her in civil court.

And I hope she loses her license to practice forever. Then let her try to pay all those student loans.

She has bankrupted herself and ruined her life.

Probably a good thing given her tendencies. Can you imagine the joy she takes in euthanizing family pets? Perhaps to the point of recommending it when not needed. Maybe she tortures them a little before putting them down?

And that Vet of the Year and I'm Awesome show not only a disregard for life but a distinct narcissistic tendency.

This woman is sick. Good that she's exposed now. Just hope she will be barred from any contact with animals for the rest of her life. That includes pet ownership.

The image...is just “disgusting,” Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes told the Daily News.

...Upon seeing the inhumane social media post Friday morning, Brandes sent two deputies to Lindsey’s home to investigate whether such an act of animal cruelty really happened. Intentionally killing a cat, even a stray as Lindsay suggested, is against the law nationwide.

“This is not acceptable in our society. I don’t like it and I hope we don’t have to deal with this again,” Brandes added.

If the pet was so beloved by the owners, why did it leave home and stray around her back yard since Wednesday?

Sometimes people allow their cats to roam free and attack smaller pets, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, in their neighbors yards. If people don't want their pets harmed, they should keep their pets tied or kept in the house.

I agree that cats should be kept indoors, but allowing your cat outside doesn't mean you're asking for it to be bow-hunted. I have a kitty who has spent her life indoors but occasionally gets a yen to wander. When I take the dog out, she sometimes waits at the door and dashes past before I can stop her (although the dog, who is faster, has caught her; when she evades him, he sits by the door and whines until she returns). She doesn't usually roam for long, at most a few hours and typically more like five minutes, but I would be devastated if someone mistook her for feral and harmed her.

I don't think this is the fault of the pet owners at all; it's a bit like blaming Trayvon Martin's father for his son's murder. There is too great a tendency in this country to blame the victim or the victim's family. The vet should not have killed the cat. Period. End of discussion.

      Dear Anonymous 2pm,

Earlier this year one of our INDOOR ONLY cats somehow managed to get out of our home. We looked everywhere. We posted fliers and my husband checked the pound every other day.

I walked the neighborhood looking for her. There were days when I was out in freezing weather until I couldn't feel my hands anymore looking for her. I cried until my face was so swollen that it hurt. I beat myself up everyday asking how did it happen? What could I have done differently? How did she manage to get out?

I still don't know how she managed to escape and it hurts like hell to see her bed and her favorite bay window where she loved to nap.

    I have two comments:
    1) I have lived with two cats rescued from a feral colony ten years ago. They went thru a process that allowed them to be domesticated. They are the sweetest companion animals I've lived with, and I've lived with a lot. Every vet I've ever known seeks to solve the feral cat problem, but not by using them as target practice. This is really strange behavior for a vet, in my experience.

    2) How on earth did she think THAT cat was a feral cat???? In no way does that cat look anything but clean and healthy. So she also has no credibility in the ongoing vet discussions of how best to solve abandoned and/or feral cats.

The only good murderous vet is the one with an arrow though her head. I hope she loses her practice AND gets banned from working with any living thing. Killing any animal for personal gratification is sick enough, but posting it on social media ranks right up there with the Palins. As an animal lover and dog owner, I'm beyond appalled this bitch calls herself a doctor.

Anyone more knowledgeable here knows what happens when a dead cat is shoved up someone's ass and stitched in place?

This woman should be fixed. Seriously she probably will spawn sociopaths and serial killers. It is genetic.

Stick her in lion cage at the closest zoo and let the big cats settle the score. That's kitty justice.

  39. She's a graduate of Colorado State, not sure if university or veterinary college.

But apparently her alma mater is looking into some sort of action even though she has already graduated.

I think it is possible that her degree and/or license to practice veterinary medicine will be revoked regardless of what happens legal wise.

This woman is going to pay and pay for the rest of her life.

Here is a site with updates on the story:

It appears the sheriff wasn't sure if it was a true story or a hoax, however it appears HER MOTHER took the photo and it sounds like they are going to press animal cruelty changes against her.

    1. Bet both her parents lie their heads off. After all, having a sociopath daughter who is a vet that kills cats for pleasure would reflect poorly on their parenting skills.

Someone has pointed out that the cat's front leg is mangled. That means she trapped it first before shooting it.

There also seems to be Texas statues making this a felony.

Shooting “stray” Dogs and Cats (Penal Code 42.09 Animal Cruelty). Any person who shoots a non-livestock animal, which includes any stray or feral cat or dog, and a wild living creature previously captured, can be charged with a felony offense. Penal Code 42.092 of the State of Texas law states that a person must have the owner’s consent to kill the animal (exceptions to prosecution are provided in Section 42.092(e)(1)). It is clear that a “stray” dog or cat either has no owner or that the person who shoots the animal did not get the owner’s consent.

The owners are on vacation and the cat sitter identified the cat as Tiger. He lived on the same street as the soon-to-be-ex vet.

She better get herself a good lawyer and find another job out of her field that can pay those student loans because she'll never be a vet again.

I'll bet the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners revokes her license. Even if they don't, she is done as a vet. No one will hire her and she'll fail if she attempts a private practice. Her license expires March 1 of 2016. Good luck getting it renewed. She violated her vet oath.

  41. It gets worse.

The elderly couple that owns the cat are on vacation. It was the cat sitter that identified the poor thing as Tiger. The family lives on the same block.

This cat was obviously well groomed and well fed. It was NOT a feral cat.

I have to wonder if this soon to be EX-vet had a grudge against the cat and took this opportunity to eliminate it and then cover her tracks by publicly posting it as a feral cat. Then she has plausible deniability.

That said, she is still ruined and has some mental and personality problems.

Better they are exposed now than when she takes out a child or adult she has issues with.
