During Rachel Maddow's recent visit to The Late Show she is asked her opinion about the 2016 election. Her response to Sarah Palin is worth the price of admission.

There was no broken teleprompter. Tell me, at what point in that rambling, incoherent mess did it break? It's not as though the speech started out thoughtful and articulate. Everyone is jumping on the broken teleprompter meme to cut Sarah some slack - maybe save her some humiliation, but there was no teleprompter malfunction. One of the first print articles on the Iowa speech was in a UK paper which speculated that maybe Sarah's speech was so bad because maybe the teleprompter broke. After that, the meme kind of swept through subsequent articles, linking to the UK article as if it was fact when it was never more than speculation.
DeleteWhen Hannity asked Sarah directly if the teleprompter broke she never did say 'yes', just that she's used to teleprompters breaking on her because it happened at her 2008 acceptance speech. Eyewitnesses have said the teleprompter did not break in 2008, yet Sarah still pushes that line. Then again, when introducing her, Steve King repeated the urban legends that she sold the jet on ebay and stopped the bridge to nowhere, so I guess no amount of reality or proof can shatter their imaginations.
Sarah's fans were really upset about the teleprompter stuff. After all of the jokes that Palin made about Obama needing to use a teleprompter, they know that she would never use one. She memorizes her speech and has her notebook as a back up.
