Here's a little perspective on the whole undocumented immigrant debate.

Of course perhaps it's just that the current descendants of the immigrants pictured above are afraid that the same thing will happen to them that happened to the Americans who offered food and friendship instead of imprisonment and aggression.

Engraved on our Statute of Liberty:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Welcome to The United States of America.

I think republicans should put up a bill to have that plaque changed to say "Get off of my lawn and KEEP OUT!" It says what they think our policy should be.

AH! Another comment that was posted successfully and totally disappeared. Here it is again.

The screamers around today absolutely flat refuse to acknowledge they are the descendants of immigrants. They will also tell you that the American Indian was too stupid to take advantage of the natural resources available to them and further the native should be grateful for the appearance of the "enlightened conquerors".

You know, the ones who brought them diseases they couldn't cure, the complete loss of their own lands, murder, savagery and slavery?

Thank you for posting this Gryphen. I'd love to show this to every Rethug bashing our POTUS after his speech.

I watched a short film on "mind TV" that broke my heart. It was a child of immigrants working to give back my working in a place that feeds the "food impaired", one day a year, Thanksgiving. This "child" had more intelligence and humanity in one fingernail clipping than those lovely cashiers wearing turkey pins and saying "Happy Thanksgiving". Kind of makes you wonder who's the child and who are the adults. "Food impaired" and "hunger" happen all year long, every hour of every day and night. This child was crying tears of joy that her family won't have to worry about being torn apart, won't have to worry about jobs, where their next meal comes from, IF it comes, and she's thinking of others working in a food bank.
    Why is America exceptional, again?

I am decended from immigrants. Legal immigrants. I really don't see how making sure that the people comming into this country aren't terrorists, or criminals trying to escape their community, etc. is a bad thing. Does the legal pathway need to be revised? Of course. But just blindly allowing anyone in is naive and just plain crazy! Name me any other country that allows anyone to enter and/or become citizens without some (or a bunch) of security! It is like you opening your home -try any populated area-to everyone. You find yourself so crowded and trying to feed everyone is impossible!

Should we have compassion individually? Of course! I donate what I can and where I can. Should I be forced to open my home to strangers? Of course not.

We will go under if things continue.
