I watched this with my daughter yesterday which brought back memories, because when she was just three years old this was her favorite movie, and it played non-stop at my house any time she was with me.
In fact that was how I knew that she was somewhat brighter than the average child when I discovered that she could rewind the movie and play it on her own if I was too busy or too slow to do it for her.
This is actually the first time I have seen any version of the movie that has not caused my PTSD to kick in.
Gryph, I admit that I don't usually click links, but I loved Mary Poppins (and "Saving MR. Banks" is a brilliant movie!) and I love MI native Kristen Bell. This is indeed, a fabulous video. I hope it goes viral.

I remember years ago when a friend's small daughter failed her kindergarten readiness test. She couldn't skip up and down a small flight of stairs (she had only ever lived in one story houses) and she couldn't tie her own shoes (she had spent her whole short life in Hawaii and California and flip flops were all she had ever worn).
My friend's response to the principal? "Well, she can't churn butter either, but she can work the VCR!"
Those tests can be so stupid. My pre kindergardner did poorly on the test because he couldn't identify a vest in a picture. He had never seen anyone wear one. They weren't interested in the fact that he could read. That damn vest put him in class where he was totally bored learning more basic things.
DeleteIt was remarked by a neighbor doing a study of young children that our son, then five years old, did not know how to skip. On our next trip to the supermarket, on a quiet day, I taught him how to skip. No problem! I don't think boys skip; they run but I guess it is an essential childhood skill.

ReplyDelete...It’s not a bad toy to play with, all things considered. It serves a useful purpose. It makes a lot of people feel better, it gives them release and relief. And it’s been known to make some people very happy – and not just the owners of said organ. Like the banana, it is ergonomically pleasing – as artwork throughout the ages can attest. Many words in song and poetry have been dedicated to descriptions of its phallic glory.
