John McCain explains why he chose Sarah Palin as his VP in 2008.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) joined Seth Meyers on Late Night Monday night to reminisce about his various appearances on Saturday Night Live over the years. By picking Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008, McCain figured he’s at least partly responsible for Tina Fey’s massive success.

“It made Tina Fey famous forever,” McCain said of her “iconic” Palin impression. Asked if he knew right away that Palin looked like Fey, McCain joked, “That’s why I selected her.”

Yeah, ha ha that's funny.

You know what's not funny?

The amount of damage that lunatic has helped to visit on this country.

If I were John McCain I would be ashamed to show my face in public.

Of course shame does not seem to be a possibility for the Republican party these days.

McCain will never accept responsibility for his choices. History will judge him harshly. His hail Mary choice of Palin destroyed any chance of a positive legacy. He put his personal ambitions above the well being of this entire nation (and the world). He is a panderer.

"SHE" is HIS horrible legacy and there isn't a thing he can do to erase it. The subject will be in the history books and the horrible things in Palin's past will be of record for eons.

Her poor family members! McCain's too for that matter!

Does McCain have any idea how much more class and beauty Tina Fey has than the half term governor?

He picked her because he had visions of bending her over the Kennedy desk in the Oval Office and doing the nasty. That's the ONLY reason. (Actually, if he had been elected, she never would have seen the White House. I truly believe they had plans to replace her almost immediately after the election, with the VP they truly wanted. They were using her just to garner votes, then they would have dumped her right after the election.)

The campaign folks (for McCain) did learn just how unprepared and unable Palin would have been to serve as VP (if they'd been elected).

It shocked them (according to "Game Change") and one of them actually admitted having not voted for the McCain/Palin ticket!

Keep in mind that John McCain is basically a pretty reckless guy with a jumbo ego. I doubt he ever gave much thought about Palin's total lack of experience because, in his mind, he is invincible and just needed the "window dressing" of a somewhat attractive woman. There is nothing funny about Palin.

Unfortunately for Senator McCain and very nearly the rest of us, this is no laughing matter. He very nearly placed a mentally ill and delusional pathological liar within a heartbeat of the launch codes. This plane crashing bastard would hide his head for all eternity if he had a single ounce of decency or self awareness but instead he does the rubber chicken circuit and makes jokes about how he dangled Armegeddon in front of the world while winking "just kiddin', y'all!" . Somebody ought to pull the addled old shithead aside and tell him" John, let this thing lie down. Nobody's laughing."

The VP does NOT have a thing to do w/'launch codes (?)!". The President or Congress would be the initiators of something like that...with specific rules for each as to why.

But, I agree w/you 3:52 a.m. McCain is not someone I respect or follow in our U.S. Congress.

He is currently up for reelection though (in AZ) and should not be reelected. But, he probably will be due to the money that will be thrown at his campaign.

      Our system is sick!

Gawd. The Lake Lucille Loon might take him seriously and start demanding again that Tina Fey pay for Piper's braces, since John McCain has now alleged that SP made Tina Fey famous.

Sarah: it was one of McCain's strange "jokes" to try to deflect, with humor, the fact that he'd rather talk about anything but you.

SNL was just lucky enough to have a superb comedian like Fey to use your own words for laughter.
Hillary Clinton isn't demanding that Amy Poehler pay for so much as a cup of coffee.
It's all part of the process --- no one would have laughed at how dim-witted you are if you'd given the nation one tiny nugget to suggest that you were more than an addled-brained, uneducated, talking marionette. Tina Fey just went with what the nation was laughing at already.

Yeah, haha. Did he follow up with a "Seriously of course I picked Palin because of her vast expertise and brilliance"?

Or did he just leave her as a punchline? (I can't watch the video.)

When does McCain actually WORK at the job he was elected to do? Seems as though he is lobbying for a job on TV, since he is on almost every Sunday and on variety shows too. He must be on a publicist list of people willing to do ANYTHING for appearances on TV, like the Kardasians and the PayMe's also, too. He should retire, stop with the Botox and eye lifts since they do not make him look better. Look at that neck!!

I am starting to wonder if his wife PAYS the TV stations to keep him busy, so he stays away from where she is? There is a rumor that Ryan Seacrest sees the writing on the wall about the Kardasian clan losing viewers, so is looking for another project. He wants Meghan McCain to do a reality show!! Nothing about her is interesting, but Daddy is keeping in the spotlight, so he would be on her show. She has not been on TV lately, I wonder if she is shaping up, losing weight to appear on her own show?

Didn't they say and Sarah Palin acknowledged that she was America's Energy Expert?

How come not one energy company has hired Sarah Palin?

That is the title McCain gave her when they were running - an Energy Expert! What total bullshit! Check her record as to education.

The Republican party tried (and had to) make her look 'better' than she actually was when they realized how lacking she was in so many areas.

Watch the movie and read the book - "Game Change". She was proven to be uneducated, a slow learner, emotional mess, liar and fraud on various and many occasions.

They were 'shocked' at what they'd gotten themselves into all due to them not having vetted her properly. Huge, huge mistake which is still following her today!

Just asking, Sarah Palin why are you ashamed to show your face in Wasilla? When you visit Wasilla it seems as if you hide in your compound.

She knows she'll run into trouble in Wasilla and/or Anchorage when stepping outside her compound on the dead lake.

I'd love to be the first one that pulls off her wig! Damn, but that would be fun! Plus, I'd have someone there that takes photos that can be distributed later (much like she does on Facebook!).

He think the statute of limitations on asking questions concerning her should have expired long ago. Earth to Walnuts: It will NEVER expire! You'll be wearing that albatross around your neck long into eternity!; she is your legacy. Deal with it.

Add the fact that he has voted against benefits to veterans every damn time and, well, there's a word I want to use but feel free to insert your own.

When was the last time Sarah Palin and John McCain were seen together?

Was it during his 2008 loser's concession speech?

It's obvious that McCain stays as far away from Palin (publically) as he can. She brings him 'nothing' that is viewed as positive and/or affirming.

I've just realized that McCain really doesn't think HE picked Palin for his ticket. Suspect he thinks the 'other' guys in his party were the responsible ones (i.e. Morris - after the Juneau. AK interview he did w/Palin).

McCain will NEVER take ANY responsibility for Palin being put on his ticket. But, we all know that has to be sadly aware his 'group' never vetted her properly. Again (as in everything since!), she helped provide the 'kiss of death' to their race.

Plus, McCain just didn't stand up well when compared directly w/soon to be elected President Obama. President Obama has proven to be far smarter and deliberative than McCain ever thought of being!

They sure didn't vet that village idiot from Wasilla. Sarah Palin and her family should not be allowed in Washington DC.

Thank you America for voting the right man as our president. It makes me shiver thinking that John McCain picked that incompetent loser beauty pageant contestant as his vp pick.

Is it true that Sarah Heath couldn't keep her panties up before marriage. Same for her high school daughter and son.

Is it true that this person Sarah Palin's husband was pimping prostitutes to his wife's Secret Service detail when she was John McCain's vp pick?

This family sounds like they were sexually out of control.

OK, I watched the entire thing. McCain "thought" SNL was a great way to connect with the young people, while Candidate Obama just focused on things that connect with young people, like social networking, Why did Chipmonk Cheeks Corn Teeth wait till a few days before he lost to bring out his secret weapon that connects with young people? Sarah Palin?! "Can anyone tell me exactly what it is that a VP does from day to day?" (Paraphrased from memory).

And Tina Fey would be famous had she never did her imitation of Sarah. Gee, President Obama looks the same, Chimpmonk Cheeks looks the same, Seth Meyers looks the same, The hunchback of Scottsdale? Not so much.

This is a very soft interview. Not sure I can watch Seth Rogan, he needs to step it up a notch. It seems he is not hitting some real stuff with McCain.
